MBABANE:The African National Congress (ANC) has thanked Malusi Gigaba for stepping aside from his official responsibilities, the South African Broadcasting Corporation(SABC) reported on Wednesday evening.
It has been reported that, Gigaba, a former ANC National Executive Committee (NEC)member and ex-Public Enterprises Minister has been charged with corruption related to a multi-billion-rand locomotives tender at Transnet, he appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court in Johannesburg alongside four co-accused on Tuesday.
Currently, Gigaba is a Member of Parliament(MP) and co-chair of the Joint-Standing Committee on Defence.
“In a statement, the party says Gigaba’s move is in line with the step-aside rule resolved on at its 55th National Conference and is not a presumption of guilt, but a responsible organisation measure to safeguard public confidence while legal processes unfold”, the SABC reported.
