The ongoing building of houses for the poor and vulnerable, funded by donors through the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) is actually a political not a social project.

In fact, it’s a project that seeks to promote King Mswati and restore public confidence in the rejected Tinkhundla cruel and undemocratic regime.

It is important therefore to state that, there were very few practical project implemented by the current Government without being forced by those with different political views, Free Primary Education (FPE), elderly grants and other social programs were introduced after a vigorous fight through a series of protests by the People’s United Democratic Movement (PUDEMO), the then Swaziland Federation of Trade Unions (SFTU) and the civil society.

But after the recent political unrest, the Tinkhundla regime realized that, emaSwati are capable of overthrowing the Monarchy amid failure to provide basic services particularly in the rural areas.

Even though some of the poor and vulnerable emaSwati did not participate in the protests during the political unrest, it’s motivating to see them enjoying the ‘fruits’ of the political unrest protests.

But these emaSwati must remember that, some died for them to sleep in those decent houses, they must also remember that, more work needs to be done to force the Tinkhundla regime to democratize.

It’s just that, the Mass Democratic Movement (MDM) is very weak in public relations and/or communications and as a result, in the absence of clarification and mechanism seeking to put things into proper perspective, the Tinkhundla regime through the DPM, will continue to drive a propaganda and promote itself using the plight of the poor citizens.
