MBABANE:Gender-Based Violence and femicide continue unabated in Eswatini and reaching unmitigated levels, Maxwell Dlamini, the Deputy Secretary General of the People’s United Democratic Movement (PUDEMO) said when delivering the political organization’s End of Year Statement.
“Women and girls are abused, raped and murdered with impunity. PUDEMO is deeply alarmed that high levels of GBV are forcing many economically active women to flee the country and seek asylum
abroad, robbing families, communities and the economy of their backbone. This violence is inseparable from the political system. A regime that excludes women from power, protects perpetrators and entrenches patriarchy is complicit in these crimes,” said the PUDEMO Deputy Secretary General.
