Political parties must demonstrate leadership by taking decisive action against their members who promote Gender Based Violence (GBV) and/or killing of women on social media as this, undermines democratic principles and the right to life which cannot be taken away from women based on mere cheating accusations.
Princess ‘Nunu’ Ginindza, a teacher by profession and resident of Motshane, was allegedly killed by her husband on Friday but instead of condemning the brutal killing, we saw some members of political parties condoning this barbaric act and supporting the alleged killer.
As parents, we don’t want a society that embraces GBV as a culture, women’s right to life cannot be at the mercy of men or their partners.
Gender Based Violence must be eradicated, we don’t want any justification from men for killing women and equally so, we don’t want to hear cases of women killing men.
The police must apprehend the alleged killer but on the other hand, political parties must discipline their members who promote GBV on social media based on the their past experiences in intimate relationships.
Some men are bitter against women based on their past experiences in relationships and in my view, these are emotionally very weak men who are failing to “move on”, we want a tolerate society, just terminate the relationship or marriage, don’t kill a woman.
But women’s rights form part of the democratic project and therefore, anyone promoting GBV while calling himself or herself a political activist advocating for democracy, lacks the basic understanding of democracy.
Democracy goes beyond the right to elect a Government but, comes with a ‘package’ of human rights including women’s rights.

Princess ‘Pupu’ Ginindza was allegedly killed by her husband.
