It is very unfortunate to note that, under the United States Donald Trump administration, the world is fast becoming a jungle where a powerful country is consuming the powerless in complete disregard of international law and the United Nations Charter, established to protect sovereignty and recognize all countries as equal members of the United Nations.
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro was allegedly abducted by United States forces in what President Donald Trump subsequently described as the most successful operation, Maduro is currently in the US and briefly appeared before the New York Court this week facing drugs smuggling and terrorism criminal charges.
But it is important to state that, the US military operation and subsequent comments made by President Donald Trump, thretening to attack Colombia, Cuba and further seize control of the Denmark Greenland Island, resulted to Germany and other European countries pledging to militarily assist Denmark in defending the Island amid United States’ political appetite to grab and incorporate it.
The global tension triggered by the political arrogance of the United States is impacting even global markets threatening global economic growth and stability.
It should be noted that, in the early hours on Saturday, Venezuela’s airspace was closed and thousands of tourists were stranded in the Caribbean but, Donald Trump praised his military for abducting President Nicolas Maduro while disregarding the negative impacts of his actions to global peace and economic prosperity.
The world will no-longer be a safe place if the interests of one country supersedes the sovereignty of other countries while undermining international law whose fundamental objective among others, is to promote global peace, order, and justice by regulating the conduct of sovereign States.
It’s true that, the United States is a superpower but, turning the planet Earth into a war zone will not work to it’s advantage, peace once lost, automatically create a room for chaos and in this regard, global disorder.
The UN Security Council has a huge task or responsibility, allowing one member to disregard international law and the UN Charter with impunity undermines the founding principles of the United Nations.
After World War II, the then League of Nations was dissolved for failing to prevent wars or global conflicts, the United Nations was then established with a similar mandate, to promote global peace and stability.
But the current conduct of the United States should be a reminder how between 1920 and 1939, the then League of Nations was manipulated by France and Britain to advance the interests of the then superpowers, the League of Nations was rendered ‘useless’ by superpowers and now, the Unites Nations is taking that route by failing to hold the United States accountable.
It is important therefore to warn that, failure by the United Nations Security Council to hold the US accountable for thretening global peace by invading and undermining the sovereignty of other countries, will set a bad precedent and undermine global peace, security and stability.
