MBABANE:Zakhele Dlamini, the Spokesperson and Legal Advisor of The Luke Commission has appealed to the Eswatini Electricity Company (EEC) not to disconnect power supply amid demand for over R1million in respect of an outstanding electricity bill.
Dlamini was responding to this Swaziland News on Friday morning when asked to clarify a document from the Electricity Company, communicating a notice of intention to disconnect power supply to The Luke Commission.
“I haven’t seen the letter yet, Nkhosi, but I will reach out to my client. If this is true, it is really bad for the hospital and for those Emaswati lying on those beds for health care. One can only plead with the electricity company to hold on a bit as we try to engage all parties for a solution,” said the Spokesperson of the Luke Commission.
The re-emerging financial challenges within The Luke Commission comes at the time when Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini is allegedly opposing the release of R50million Government subvention due to the hospital, deliberately defying a law passed by Parliament, The Appropriation Act of 2025.
But some Ministers told this publication that, Cabinet warned the Prime Minister against frustrating the release of the R50million and defying an Act of Parliament.
“We warned him during a Cabinet meeting but he refused to listen and even accused Finance Minister Neal Rijikernberg of having an interest in the matter,” said the Cabinet source.
Efforts to seek a comment from Acting Government Spokesperson Thabile Mdluli, proved unsuccessful at the time of compiling this report.
Khaya Mavuso, the Eswatini Electricity Company Spokesperson asked this journalist to share the document so that he can forward a detailed comment.
“Please forward the document,” he said but, at the time of compiling this report, he had not shared comment.
The Luke Commission is highly expected to face financial challenges again as the PM delays the release of the R50million, hundreds of lives might be lost.
