MBABANE:The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) donated two hundred and seventy thousand Rands (R270,000.00) in support of the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) National Response and Preparedness Plan.
Speaking in Mbabane at Hilton Hotel this week, His Excellency Henrik Franklin, the UNDP Resident Representative reaffirmed UNDP’s commitment to supporting national resilience building efforts.
“Our engagement reflects UNDP’s core mandate – to strengthen resilience, reduce disaster risk and accelerate climate adaptation,” he said.
NDMA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Victor Mahlalela highlighted that the Disaster Management Act of 2025 places strong emphasis on preparedness and risk reduction. “We should not continue to have fire challenges in the country considering our size and the resources we have,” he said.
On another note, Deputy Chief Fire Officer Dennis Khumalo encouraged continued collaboration.
“Let us stop working in silos. Your engagement has been key in developing this Plan,” said the Deputy Chief Fire Officer.
