MBABANE: The Department of Commerce in the United States has released a report, encouraging US companies to invest in the Southern African tiny Kingdom of Eswatini.
The report dated 9th February 2026, describes Eswatini as an export-driven economy with friendly business policies, the Kingdom currently enjoys warm diplomatic relations with the US and, positioned as a strategic partner amid tension between the United States and the neighboring South Africa.
But the diplomatic tension between the US and South Africa erupted after the President Cyril Ramaphosa administration took US key Middle East diplomatic partner, Israel to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) accusing the Jewish State of committing war crimes and/or killing Palestinians.
“Eswatini is an export-driven economy, with exports as a percentage of GDP ranking 7th in Africa. Eswatini is a strong entry point for duty free export to African regional trade bodies (e.g., SACU, SADC, COMESA and AcFTA), while taking advantage of the relatively business-friendly environment and quality infrastructure the country has to offer,” reads the report in part.
Efforts to seek a comment from Eswatini Commerce, Industry and Trade Minister Mancoba Khumalo proved unsuccessful at the time of compiling this report.
On another note, the US Department of Commerce encouraged United States investors to consider partnering with Eswatini businesspeople when establishing companies in the Kingdom.
“It is helpful (though not required) to have a local presence or a local partner. It is worthwhile to establish business relationships before tender opportunities are announced. U.S. firms should seek local partners with a good reputation in their line of business or a complementary business that understands the local procedures and processes needed to set up, operate, and liquidate a business in Eswatini, as well as in the region,” said the US Department of Commerce through the report.
King Mswati, when delivering the Speech from the Throne, marking the official opening of Parliament, urged the Eswatini Government to facilitate the establishment of multibillion projects and grow the economy, the King told Cabinet and Government officials that, the country should not rest, until emaSwati have a better life.
