NKILONGO: The youth of Nkilongo Constituency are lobbying to march to the Inkhundla offices on Tuesday to deliver a petition mandating its Member of Parliament(MP) Timothy Myeni to move a motion and usher the country into a new democratic dispensation.

This comes after the MP revealed during an interview with Swaziland News editor Zweli Martin Dlamini that he would support calls for democracy if that’s what the people wanted.

Speaking to this publication on Wednesday in a widely circulated interview, the MP said he currently supports the Tinkhundla system because that’s how the country is governed but if the people were to demand for political parties and or democratic reforms, he would surely stand with the masses.

“I am supporting  the Tinkhundla system because it’s the current Government but in the event the people demand  political parties, I will surely stand with the people”,said the Nkilongo MP.

Reached for comments, Sanele Ndwandwe, who was speaking on behalf of the youth said they would deliver a petition to the their MP on Tuesday demanding democracy including an elected Prime Minister.

“After hearing the political views of our MP where he said he would support democracy if that’s what the people wanted, we decided to organize ourselves and deliver a petition to him on Tuesday. We are demanding democracy but most importantly, we want an elected Prime Minister who will understand and address our needs”, he said.

Eswatini, a tiny Kingdom situated in Southern Africa and ruled by King Mswati as an absolute Monarch has about 70% of the population living below the poverty line, political parties are banned from participating in elections and the Prime Minister is appointed by the King within the ruling Dlamini royal household. On Tuesday, the issue of regime change, police brutality and or justice for Thabani was a subject of Parliament debate, the King had systematically suspended Parliament sittings for almost two months as the calls for democracy intensifies.
