Nazarene University Management defends incarcerated Students Union Colani Maseko, says he never damaged any property.

MANZINI: The Registrar of the Southern Africa Nazarene University(SANU) has come out to clarify that Students Union President Colani Maseko never damaged any property belonging to the institution.

This is contained in a memorandum dated 01 February 2022 directed to all staff , students and SANU.

“Pursuant to the article in the Times of Eswatini dated 1st February 2022, the Southern Africa Nazarene University, met with the Manzini Police to discuss the charges put across to Colani Maseko, in that some information in the charge sheet as incorrect. The University acknowledges that property in the excess of R10,000.00 was damaged within the SANU Manzini Campus, and the person/persons from the group of students responsible for this damage was/were not identified. The University wishes to point out further, that no intent to injure Mr Thandokuhle Mdziniso was committed by the student Colani Maseko as presented in the charges contained in the Times of Eswatini”, read the memorandum signed by the Registrar.

Colani Maseko, the President of the Swaziland National Union of Students(SNUS) who is critical of King Mswati was abducted by Mswati’s police on Monday and subsequently charged with Sedition and malicious damage to property.
