King Mswati demonstrates ignorance of CoronaVirus in a packed stadium

Monday, 9th March, 2020

MBABANE: King Mswati shocked many Swazis when he demonstrated ignorance of the CoronaVirus that has been declared a global crisis by the United Nations.

This was during a football match on Sunday at Somhlolo National Stadium.Mswati, who is Sub-Saharan Africa last absolute Monarch said the world was facing ‘Conarovirus’ instead of referring to the pandemic as CoronaVirus.

“The world is not stable these days, there is Conarovirus” said the King.

Reached for comments on the King’s sentiments, Sikelela Dlamini, the Secretary General of the Swaziland National Association of Teachers(SNAT) said for the King to demonstrate ignorance of the pandemic that is currently making headlines around the world suggests that government was not ready to deal with the virus.

“As a leader, a Head of State must  take the lead and give direction on this pandemic. If he struggles to pronounce the name of CoronaVirus, a pandemic currently making headlines around the world, then we are in big trouble because it shows that he is not even fully aware of this virus. Our main fear is that by the time a first case is detected, many people would have died because due to lack of resources, we are not even aware whether the virus is already in the country not. So for a Head of State to speak like this, suggests that he is ignorant and not interested in addressing the crisis” said the SNAT boss.
