MBABANE:Swaziland News columnist and former Cabinet Minister Mfomfo Nkambule has alleged that police seized his electronic gadgets and subsequently tortured him for writing articles critical of King Mswati.
Nkambule, was raided by the police and subsequently taken to the Manzini Regional Headquarters yesterday (Thursday) where he was allegedly forced to explain the articles he wrote about the King. He said the police drove with him from Matsapha around 8am, he was later released around 3pm after being harassed and tortured.
“They tortured me saying I risk being charged with high treason and under the terrorism law. They complained about an article suggesting that Tinkhundla was a political party without an opposition” said the political writer.
Superintendent Phindile Valakati, the Police Spokesperson confirmed that they raided and questioned Nkambule on the articles but denied that he was tortured.
“We summoned Nkambule seeking clarity on his published articles. However, we didn’t torture him” she said.
The torturing of the political analyst comes few days after police raided and subsequently tortured Swaziland News editor Zweli Martin Dlamini, who told SABC that he was suffocated by the police. Dlamini was also subjected to torture for writing critical articles about King Mswati.
