Nurses President: Food distribution might encourage people to stay at home, prevent infections.

Tuesday, 26th May, 2020

MBABANE: Bheki Mamba, the President of Swaziland Democratic Nurses Union(SWADNU) has once again warned government against shifting focus in the fight against COVID-19 by delaying to distribute food to the people.

Speaking to this Swaziland News, the nurses President maintained that government does not have the capacity to treat the virus but can only manage it through encouraging people to stay at home to prevent new infections. He noted that government was now focusing on economic growth instead of working towards preventing the spread of the virus and warned that the situation might soon get worse.

“We have observed that government and businesspeople are shifting the focus. We want to single out Eswatini Medical Christian University that donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) valued at E900 000 and extend our utmost gratitude. We hope other organisations will follow suit” Mamba said.

The nurses President further mentioned that as part of mitigating the spread of the virus, health workers should be provided with adequate Personal Protective Clothing (PPEs) and encouraged companies and international partners to continue donating.
