Political unrest, unfortunate killing of police officers restored right to human dignity.

Thursday, 15th June, 2023

Even though it was very unfortunate, the positive part of the recent political unrest and the killing of police officers is that, it restored the citizens’ right to human dignity.

Before the unrest, it was easy for State police officers to torture and kill citizens with impunity, now they are wearing balaclavas during their operations, they know that if identified, something terrible might happen to them.

In a society, it is very dangerous to have people who commit crimes against humanity without fear of being held accountable.

Mlungisi Makhanya, the President of the People’s United Democratic Movement(PUDEMO) was addressing the Nation on Wednesday evening, he touched on the issue of police officers who cross the boarder to hunt political activists.

Perhaps, one can emphasize that if police officers are not afraid to invade our hiding space in exile, with an intention of kidnapping and traffic us to eSwatini, this means we have to enhance security or conduct operations that would act as a deterrence.

It is important to state that the officers will continue doing so, at least, until they feel unsafe when doing such illegal operations for the State.

But the mere fact that State police officers wear balaclavas is a crime on its own, if they are conducting legal operations at night, why are they hiding themselves?.

What happened during the political unrest where the people protested against the regime, should be applauded, it restored our right to human dignity because now, the authorities are aware that even if Swazis can keep quiet, they are capable of rebelling.

Before the unrest, police officers were boosting on social media, now they are using fake accounts because they know the consequences if identified.

These are some of the achievements of the revolution, gradually, we will attain democracy and be treated like citizens not subjects.
