MATSAPHA: Baston Security,a company owned by King Mswati’s mercenaries allegedly installed signal jammers on top of incarcerated pro-democracy Member of Parliament(MP) Mduduzi Bacede Mabuza’s prison cell amid reports suggesting that,he was using and/or in possession of cellphones provided by senior warders.
A signal jammer is a potable device that prevents wireless communication, it blocks the network within twenty(20) meters radius from the targeted area, other stronger signal jammers have the potential to halt the network as far as more than ten(10) kilometers from the targeted place or individual.
MPs Mduduzi Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube were arrested by the police and subsequently convicted by Judge Mumcy Dlamini on terrorism charges, merely for demanding democracy inside Parliament, the order to arrest the two(2) was allegedly issued by King Mswati who rules eSwatini as an absolute Monarch.
An independent investigation conducted by this Swaziland News uncovered that, the signal jammers were allegedly installed by the security company on or around the 5th August 2023 and the purpose, it has disclosed, was to prevent incarcerated pro-democracy MP Mduduzi Bacede Mabuza from communicating with a cellphone while inside his prison cell.
But when this publication started to investigate the matter, Arno Pienaar and/or Baston Security allegedly rushed to remove devices and at the time, some warders were also complaining that, their cellphones were not ‘picking-up’ the network within the premises of the Matsapha Maximum Prison.
A questionnaire was sent to both Arno Piennar, the Director of Baston Security and Superintendent Gugulethu Dlamini, the Spokesperson of the Correctional Services, however, both of them had not responded at the time of compiling this report.
But Sicelo Mngomezulu, the lawyer representing the incarcerated pro-democracy MPs confirmed that, the signal jammers were installed at Mabuza’s prison cell adding that, this was was done by the regime’s mercenaries.
“Yes we have learnt of such reports, we also been informed that the regime’s known white racist mercenaries are responsible for this. This is a perpetuation of the paranoia that the regime has about my client, regrettably it is this sort of attitude that makes the Correctional Service officials think they can ‘clip Bacede's wings’ through the use of torture and violence”, said the lawyer representing the MPs.
It has been disclosed that, after the removal of the signal jammers in the midst of an investigation by this publication and due to technical challenges as the devices were also blocking communication for warders, an order was then issued to assault the MP amid allegations suggesting that, he was in possession of cellphones.
The warders first punished the MP by denying him the right to eat last week by blocking his wife from delivering the food and when he questioned and/or reacted to that, over one hundred(100) recruits including drunkards who drink alcohol at Matsapha Prison Bar were unleashed to assault him.
The warders were acting on an order issued by Phindile Dlamini, the Commissioner General of the Correctional Services and while assaulting the MP, the recruits were shouting “You will know King Mswati today, the country is facing political instability because of you. Utawuyati iNkhosi Mswati namuhla, lelive linjena nje nguwe lowacala lentfo”.
