MBABANE: Cebile Dlamini, the Secretary General of the Swaziland Rural Women Assembly known as Sicandvulo SaboMake said as rural women they aspire to pursue opportunities in the agricultural sector for financial stability.
Speaking to this Swaziland News this week as the world commemorates Rural Women day, Dlamini said rural women they used the commemoration day to focus on their various projects particularly in the agricultural sector.
“It was a wonderful day for us as rural women, we used this day to discuss our various projects and further encourage ourselves because, seemingly women in the rural areas are being neglected, no one is motivating them yet they are contributing to the economic growth in our society” said the Rural Women Assembly Secretary General.
On Wednesday, Colani Hlatswako, the Co-ordinator of One Billion Rising Campaign Africa hosted Lonhlanhla Mthetwa, the Chairperson of the Swazilad Rural Women Assembly on Liguma program aired in the Swaziland News audio channel where the commemoration of international rural women day was discussed at length.
“We normally use this day, the international Rural Women Day to focus on the role of women at family, community and national level. On this day, we also focus on food security” she said.
It has been reported that about 70% of the population here in eSwatini most of them women, live below the poverty line with less than $1 per day and the country has been rated as one of the most unequal countries in the world. The World commemorates rural women day on 15th October every year.
