MBABANE:Thulisile Dladla, the Deputy Prime Minister(DPM) has expressed serious concerns regarding the ongoing wild fires that destroyed public and private properties worth millions.
In a public statement released this week,the DPM urged stakeholders to work with Government in finding a solution to protect the country from the crisis.
Eswatini has lost infrastructure including homes worth millions since the uncontrolled wild fires erupted last month, the fires destroyed forests, King Mswati’s Libandla Room at Ludzidzini Palace and Guest Houses among others.
“The Government of Eswatini notes with deep concern the alarming rate of wildfires that continue to damage our country, particularly during this windy season. The ongoing fires are not only destroying lives, property, and livelihoods but are also inflicting severe damage on our country. Over the past two weeks alone, the Shiselweni region has faced severe devastation, with approximately 14 families left without shelter, food, and clothing due to the relentless wildfires.This tragedy highlights the profound and often catastrophic impact of such disasters on our communities as they cascading impact towards increasing vulnerability”,‘said the Deputy Prime Minister.
The DPM then urged all stakeholders to collectively find a solution to the crisis while expressing Government’s commitment to protect the people and their properties.
“We call upon every citizen to cooperate in this endeavor. We further call upon engagement with all stakeholders towards finding amicable solutions where there is difference of opinion but not to resort to violent means. Together we can protect our Nation and ensure a resilient and disaster safe Kingdom of Eswatini”, said the DPM.
