“Some cops will turn the gun to Cabinet Ministers or others before committing suicide”, says police officer amid Government refusal to award salary increment.

MBABANE:”The number of suicide cases within the Police Service indicate the seriousness of the frustration amid financial challenges and one day, some cops will turn the gun on Cabinet Ministers and others before committing suicide.”

These were the sentiments of a police officers who was commenting about the decision by Government to refuse or delay the implementation of a salary increment for junior police officers under Phase two(2)

Government Spokesperson Alpheous Nxumalo communicated a decision to review the Supreme Court judgement and junior police officers who languishing in poverty are highly expected to face more financial challenges.

In a statement released on Friday, Government Spokesperson Alpheous Nxumalo said,the Supreme Court judgement awarding junior security officers a salary increment will be reviewed because of exceptional circumstances.

“Government has, upon examining the Supreme Court judgment on the issue of Phase II salary restructuring for junior national security officers, concluded that there exist exceptional circumstances that warrants a review of the said judgment. Accordingly, Government is processing an application for review of the judgment”, reads the statement in part.

But the police officer who was speaking to Swaziland News editor Zweli Martin Dlamini said, they “are disappointed to see Cabinet Ministers and people who need protection from the police because of their status in the country, opposing the Gazetted salary increment.

“I listened to your audio where you were analyzing the matter. You see Nkhosi silambile singemaphoyisa laba laba-committa ema-suicide bentiwa yi-frustration. But one day some police offices will turn the gun on the Cabinet Ministers and other powerful individuals they are escorting before committing suicide”, said the police officer.
