MBABANE:The eSwatini Government is now forcing patients to sign discharge forms designed to exonerate the State amid shortage of drugs in public hospitals.
The document has been designed to appear as if the patients who are languishing in the various public hospitals without any assistance, discharged themselves as per their own decision yet, the situation in the various hospitals suggests that, the health system has collapsed.
“I wish to be discharged I appreciate that this is against the Doctor’s/ Nurse’s advice”, reads the document in part.
Acting Government Spokesperson Thabile Mdluli declined to comment about the matter.
A patient who leaked the document said the nurses produced the form after he complained about pain without any assistance amid shortage of drugs at Mbabane Government hospital.
“I then asked to leave the hospital as I wasn’t receiving any assistance and they told me to sign the form first, I refused”, said the patient.
Eswatini is facing a health crisis amid shortage of drugs in public hospitals, dozens have died since the crisis erupted.
It has been disclosed that, the Government introduced the discharge forms to avoid being sued amid failure to provide drugs in public hospitals.
