Managing Director Enerst Mkhonta says Eswatini Electricity Company(EEC) to apply for another electricity increase after R200million loss, Nation Magazine editor Bheki Makhubu warns.

MBABANE:Bheki Makhubu,the editor of the independent Nation Magazine says “electricity is now expensive in the country” warning that, this might escalate to serious socio-economic challenges.

The highly regarded editor was speaking on Tuesday morning at the Hilton Hotel after the Managing Director of the Eswatini Electricity Company(EEC) announced that, the company might soon apply for another electricity increase subsequent to a R200million loss.

“Sthofeni Ginindza,the former Board Chairman predicted some years ago that,this company will be in crisis if the country delayed in establishing energy generation projects, he specifically mentioned that the crisis might start in 2025 and indeed, we are now in 2025. What prevented you from establishing the electricity generation projects because Sthofeni told you?”, said the National Magazine editor.

The Managing Director did not give convincing answers but highlighted some projects that are already in the pipeline, eSwatini is facing scarcity of electricity.
