SWADEPA member urges MPs to remove Petros Mavimbela and elect Marwick as Speaker to frustrate Mswati.

LOBAMBA: Sanele Sihlongonyane, a member of the Swaziland Democratic Party(SWADEPA) has urged Members of Parliament(MPs) to elect Lobamba Lomdzala MP Marwick Khumalo as Speaker in the event they decide to remove Petros Mavimbela.

This comes in the midst of growing calls within Parliament for the Speaker to be removed for opposing motions of public interest in favour of King Mswati, Mavimbela is an MP for Mhlambanyatsi Constituency.

Speaking to this Swaziland News on Sunday, Sihlongonyane who is active in the pro-democracy movement within his political party said electing Marwick Khumalo would be like giving King Mswati a political rope to hang himself because he would want to exercise his absolute power and prove to anyone that he doesn\'t want Marwick Khumalo.

“In my opinion, MPs must just elect Marwick Khumalo as Speaker, this will help us to intensify the struggle for democracy because Mswati will want to prove that he doesn’t want him in that position. Kungamela bamkhetse nje mabomu, utasikhombisa ke Mswati kutsi kuku Section bani ku-Constitution kutsi umuntfu labanga naye i-Cherry kumele angabi nguSpeaker. We are now at a critical stage of the struggle for freedom and we must do anything that might frustrate Mswati to commit political blunders. Even the arrest of bo-Bacede helped in intensifying the struggle and now we must give him another political rope to hang himself by electing Marwick Khumalo knowing very well that he does not want him there”, said  the SWADEPA member.

Government Spokesperson Sabelo Dlamini had not responded at the time of compiling this report.

Eswatini is in the midst of a political crisis, MP Marwick Khumalo recently  tried to register a pro-democracy motion that was rejected by Speaker Petros Mavimbela.

The motion was to be seconded by Nkilongo MP Timothy Myeni.
