MANZINI: Mbongwa Dlamini, the President of the Swaziland National Association of Teachers(SNAT) was attacked by Mswati’s police and almost killed on Saturday, the police were searching for members of the newly established Swaziland Liberation Movement(SWALIMO).
Speaking to this Swaziland News on Sunday evening, the SNAT President confirmed that the police were actually shooting members of the Swaziland Liberation Movement (SWALIMO) who had passed through his home at Helemisi.
It has been disclosed that after receiving information that the SWALIMO members were hiding at Dlamini’s house, the police allegedly fired a hail of bullets indiscriminately, at the house which was also occupied by children.
“The comrades passed through my yard and sought refuge at nearby bushes. What’'s peculiar is that the police fired shots indiscriminately at the house which was occupied by children, this shows how inconsiderate and heartless they are", he said.
Phindile Vilakati, the eSwatini Police Spokesperson had not responded at the time of compiling this report.
Reached for comments, Dr Siphetfo Dlamini, the Secretary General of the Swaziland Liberation Movement (SWALIMO) confirmed that about seven (7) of their members who were from a branch activation at Mtfongwaneni were attacked by the OSSU police at the Nazarene Bus Stop on Saturday evening, the police fired shots and chased after them towards kaHelemisi.
“What the police did is actually a motivation for us to fight even harder. We need to understand that the struggle for democracy was never meant to be easy, we need to appreciate the bravery that our members have shown in the midst of the attack by the police”,said the SWALIMO Secretary General.
