OPINION:Why King Mswati’s ‘Nkwe’ Cabinet directive remains a political wet dream amid shortage of drugs in public hospitals?.

Monday, 23rd December, 2024

King Mswati’s ‘Nkwe’ Sibaya order, directing Cabinet particularly Prime Minister(PM) Russell Mmiso Dlamini to provide services to the people has proven to be a ‘wet dream’ amid shortage of drugs in public hospitals.

A wet dream is an imaginary sex and/or spontaneous occurrence of sexual arousal during sleep that includes ejaculation and orgasm for a male,it also includes vaginal lubrication and/or orgasm for a female.

Indeed, there are many similarities between a wet dream and the Sibaya  ‘Nkwe’ King’s directive, the royal order was not only imaginary or out of touch with reality but it has, since the appointment of the current Cabinet, produced political ejaculation that never was.

In context, towards the end of last year, Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini announced a Health Crisis Cabinet Committee tasked with ensuring the availability of drugs in public hospitals, the Commitee was chaired by Mancoba Khumalo, the Minister of Commerce, Indutry and Trade.

Cabinet through the Commerce, Industry and Trade Minister assured the Nation that by January 2024, the health crisis would be over as all public hospitals will be having adequate drugs and working equipment.

I warned the Nation even before January 2024 that, this regime was misleading the public, political toddlers felt Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini must be given a chance to prove himself and, they were of the view that, he will address the ongoing health crisis.

But there’s no virginity in politics and it is not in the best interest of this country to have a political novice like Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini receiving political romantic treatment while dozens of emaSwati die in public hospitals amid shortage of drugs.

‘Nkwe’ is a Siswati word meaning “run at a very high speed” and when we grew-up, our parents used to say; “ngikhafulela ematse lana, gijima utsi Nkwe!!!, angomi lamatse ungakabuyi”.

King Mswati fully understands siSwati, in fact he is one of the experts of our language as sometimes he uses strong siSwati words that could only be understood by individuals who were raised by grandparents of the 1900s.

These words include “timfingo”, emahalinyane, emankengane and therefore ‘Nkwe’ is not a complicated word and Mswati knew exactly what he ordered the PM and the current Cabinet to do.

But in this country, ‘Nkwe’ only applies in the scramble for corruption and the looting of State resources, there’s absolutely no urgency in improving the lives of the people.

It is therefore important to state that, as public hospitals struggle with no drugs to me, ‘Nkwe’ remains a political wet dream.

This means all the Cabinet Ministers have collectively failed emaSwati, the health crisis should have been prioritized but alas, emaSwati are dying in Mbabane Government Hospital situated next to the Cabinet offices.

But in all this, King Mswati must also shoulder the blame not only for appointing a political novice Prime Minister but, for looting millions of public funds that could have been used to improve the lives of the people.

The millions spent on international trips could have made a difference in improving the lives of emaSwati particularly in the purchasing of drugs in public hospitals.

On the other hand, King Mswati must understand that, running a Government is completely different from “kuhlakula iMfabantfu” with bare hands, resources including money should be provided to the Ministers and/or entire Cabinet to implement the National Development Strategy(NDS).

It should be noted that, if Mswati loots more public funds and then expect Cabinet to implement his ‘Nkwe’ development directive, that would mean he is also a political wet dreamer and his development will only be implemented in the world of imagination.

But having said that, we have seen some development particularly the construction of pro-base roads and bridges in the rural areas and this, is commendable.

We have also seen the construction of factories under the Ministry of Commerce,Industry and Trade and the implementation of technology programs under the Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology(ICT).

But apart from that, the Ministry of Agriculture introduced a program under the Eswatini Water and Agricultural Development Enterprise(ESWADE) seeking to support farmers in the rural areas.

Deputy Prime Minister(DPM) Thulisile Dladla has been constructing houses for the poor, she did well but we have about seven hundred thousand(700000) emaSwati living in poverty and these development programs did not improve or addressed even one(1%) of the social ills facing this country.

Development projects should be complementary, once you construct a road or a bridge, citizens must use that road to travel to hospitals or clinics and receive the best medical treatment.

Driving or traveling in a smooth tarred road on your way to hospital where you will die amid shortage of drugs, undermines the basic principles of social cohesion and right to life.

Maintaining and improving existing infrastructure contributes to social cohesion in that, it affords greater opportunities for individuals to encounter other residents and visitors and it is through these social contacts that, social cohesion and belonging develop.

But access to health care being the pillar of the right to life, should be prioritized and in this regard, Cabinet and King Mswati must provide drugs in public hospitals.
