Without sources, the media cannot function or perform its constitutional mandate to promote access to information and therefore, any public figure who threatens sources is committing a serious ‘crime’ against journalism.
Indeed threatening a journalist could be a crime but as journalists, we took serious exception to threats directed to our sources because without sources, we are not journalists.
It is therefore important to warn lunatics or anyone who might think of threatening our sources that, we won’t allow powerful individuals to threaten journalism to evade accountability on allegations of wrongdoing.
Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini recently threatened to investigate Cabinet Ministers who leak information, he must know that by so doing, he will be committing a serious crime against journalism and, will be held accountable for undermining the constitutional right to information.
